Using Git and GitHub

Abstract

This talk will introduce the Git source control system and the free GitHub open source hosting tool.

We will cover how Git differs from systems like Subversion and why you should be using it. We will also go over some basic Git usage and some interesting tips for later.

Finally we will go over some of the functionality of the GitHub hosting website – how to use it to get contributions and helpful collaboration on your open source projects. Or, how to use it to contribute to someone else’s project.
